Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until evenly combined.
Add Buttermilk: Pour in the buttermilk and stir gently with a spoon or spatula until a moist, shaggy dough forms. Avoid overmixing—some lumps are okay.
Melt Butter & Prep Dish: Melt the butter in a microwave-safe container. Pour it evenly into an 8×8 or 9×9-inch baking dish, making sure the pan is large enough to prevent overflow during baking.
Add Dough & Spread: Carefully spoon the dough over the melted butter in the dish. Use a spatula to spread it evenly, touching the edges so the dough “swims” in butter.
Score Biscuits: Using a knife or bench scraper, cut the dough into 9 roughly equal squares right in the pan, but do not separate them.
Bake: Place the pan in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until the tops are golden and cooked through. The bubbling butter will form a delicious crust underneath.
Serve: Take out of the oven and serve warm. These biscuits are wonderful on their own or paired with jam, honey, or gravy!
