This is my favorite dessert ever

1. In the slow cooker, combine sliced apples, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, 1 tablespoon flour, and vanilla extract. Give everything a good stir to ensure the apples are nicely coated.
2. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups flour, 1/3 cup white sugar, 1/3 cup brown sugar, baking powder, and salt for the cobbler topping.
3. With a pastry cutter or your fingers, blend the butter into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
4. Stir in the boiling water until the mixture is just combined—it should be a bit on the clumpy side.
5. Drop spoonfuls of the topping over the apple mixture in the slow cooker. Don’t worry about smoothing it out, those rustic peaks get beautifully golden and delicious.
6. Cover and cook on high for 2 to 3 hours. When it’s done, the topping should be set and the apples bubbling with joy.
7. Turn off the slow cooker and let the cobbler stand for a few minutes before serving, if you can manage to wait!
Variations & Tips
– The apple adventure doesn’t have to stop at cinnamon and nutmeg. Feel free to add some allspice or ground cloves to the mix.
– Funk up your cobbler with a mix of fruits! Apples and pears? Peaches and raspberries? Go wild.
– For a buttery, nuttier topping, sprinkle in some chopped pecans or walnuts into the crumble right before you add the boiling water.
– Is it just me or does every slow cooker have its own personality? Know yours! Some cook hotter and faster, so keep a close eye on your cobbler the first time you make it. Adjust the time as needed.
– And here’s a tip straight from my own bustling weekdays: prep your apples the night before and store them in the fridge with a bit of lemon juice. The next day, all you have to do is layer up the cobbler and go about conquering your to-do list.
Put on your comfiest sweater, get that cobbler bubbling, and let’s usher in the season of cozy-deliciousness together.
