Sugar-free pomegranate jam is an excellent option for those who want to enjoy an authentic and natural jam, rich in flavor and health benefits. The pomegranate, with a sweet and slightly acidic taste, is a fruit that lends itself very well to the preparation of jams and marmalades, thanks to its natural sweetness and antioxidant properties.
Here’s how to prepare it in a few simple steps, with easy-to-find ingredients and a little patience to obtain a tasty jam without the addition of refined sugars.
Ingredients
6-8 ripe pomegranates (about 1 kg of seeds)
1 large apple (preferably organic)
Juice of half a lemon
1 teaspoon of agar-agar (to thicken, optional)
Procedure
Pomegranate preparation
First, peel the pomegranates and remove the seeds. To make the operation easier, you can cut the pomegranate in half and immerse it in a bowl of water. This way, the beans will detach more easily from the white membrane, which can be bitter.
Extract the juice
Once you have the beans, put them in a blender or potato masher to extract the juice. If you prefer a creamier jam, pass the juice through a sieve to remove the seeds. If you like your preserves to be rustic, you can also leave the seeds.
